Robots in everyday environments
rUNSWeep’s RoboCup@Home work brings together navigation, manipulation, dialogue and task reasoning in a domestic setting. These tasks require a robot to connect observations with a model of objects, places and people.
An integrated domestic-robotics testbed
The original rUNSWeep material describes ROS software connecting perception, a world model, navigation, manipulation, speech and task execution. Tasks such as cleaning a table and carrying luggage make the integration problem concrete: observations must lead to a useful sequence of actions, with feedback as the situation changes.
The earlier Toyota HSR-B robot was named Blinky, and the team’s laboratory was arranged as a small apartment. Blinky and the 2024 software system provides a dated account of that platform and its capabilities.
From HSR to humanoid robotics
The 2026 team description paper, titled UNSW+RMIT RoboCup@Home, documents work on Toyota HSR and Fourier GR-1 robots. It describes a transition towards the GR-1, with work on mapping, navigation, grasping and a platform-independent world model and task planner.
This is a research testbed: capabilities and platform choices are described in the dated technical papers. For current participation and supervision enquiries, contact the CSE team through UNSW.
