Who we are
We are a team comprised of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, led by Professor Claude Sammut, the current president of the Robocup Federation. We have team members who are part of the technical committee for the @Home league in Robocup. Most members have a background in computer science or mechatronic engineering, however all are welcome that have a preliminary knowledge of how to code in python or C++ and are willing to learn more.
Why should you join rUNSWeep?
If you are curious about AI and how a robot works, this is the perfect student-led project to join, where you will get to work on a real-life problem in collaboration with academics. You will be able to apply your knowledge learnt in a variety of courses from COMP1511, COMP3431, MTRN2500, MATH2018 and so many more. You will be part of a supportive environment, where we all start out as beginners and upskill ourselves to create new software and innovate new technology! You will learn ROS (Robotic Operating System) and the majority of our code base is in python and C++. As with all projects, what you put in is what you get out and joining our team is no different. We expect hard working individuals who are willing to make mistakes and learn from them to improve, with the end goal being competing in the annual Robocup @Home competition. Robocup is like no other robotics competition, with the ability to collaborate with peers from around the world, witnessing the forefront of human-robot interaction before you. Each year the competition is hosted by a different university, with 2024 hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology.
How to join?
Our team is always looking for new members. If you are a current student and are wishing to learn more about the @Home team, please email blinky.unswathome@gmail.com. We also operate as a VIP project, AI4Everyone (https://www.challeng.unsw.edu.au/challeng-projects/ai-4-everyone), which is a way to get course credits whilst being part of the team. Everyone is welcome to apply. It is advantageous to know how to code in C++ and python, with knowledge of ROS being favourable! Everything can be learnt through the project so all skill levels (from beginner to advanced) are welcome to join!
